The very best resource for parents who learn that one (or some) of their multiples will not survive the pregnancy is the Center for Loss in Multiple Birth (CLIMB). They have gathered and created some excellent materials and have given us permission to reprint their checklist for those who are pregnant now. For more information, contact CLIMB at:
From CLIMB . . . The necessity of going as long as possible in the pregnancy for the sake of the healthy twin or multiples is one that is very unique to multiple pregnancy - parents don't have the choices (albeit limited ones) that they might in a singleton pregnancy. Going on can include having to contend with all kinds of things that can occur more readily in multiple pregnancy - premature labor, toxemia, etc, while knowing that baby will not live, and "the twins" or "the triplets" etc., will not all be coming home. It also means fear for the health baby/s and fear that the sick baby will not live until birth. It means dealing with family, friends and others who know - or don't know. It means having to anticipate and experience a birth that is almost impossible to imagine or plan for, often with little support from others and feeling like "the only one."
